All you need to know in caring for your new hair.
Aftercare for Hair Extensions
Now you have long, beautiful hair here’s some guidance on how to care for them. To maintain your extensions just follow these simple steps and your hair will remain radiant, healthy and beautiful.
Brushing your extensions
PLEASE ONLY USE A SULPHATE FREE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER RECOMMENDED BY GLAM EXTEND.
When brushing your hair it is always better to use a large soft bristle brush. This will ensure the hair does not snag or catch your extensions or natural hair, as other types of brushes might. Using the recommended brush will leave your hair shiny and in optimum condition. We recommend that you begin brushing at the ends of the hair, then move up to mid length and finally brush the root area. At night time gently tie your hair back in a loose braid or twist; this will help prevent tangles and knots.
Cleansing your extensions
First brush your hair thoroughly, then soak with warm water, we would suggest that you do not turn the head upside down but always wash from crown down. Next apply A Sulphate free shampoo, distribute your normal amount of shampoo at the roots; gently massage, this will cleanse both the natural hair and your extensions. There is no requirement to scrub the mid-length or ends as these will be cleansed sufficiently during the rinsing process. Rinse thoroughly and repeat, Always shampoo your hair twice just the same as we would do in the Salon. Pay particular attention the the bond area to ensure thorough rinsing.
Conditioning your extensions
All hair needs conditioning whether natural or extensions. I recommend conditioning every time you wash your hair. Apply the conditioner to mid-lengths and ends only, do not apply to scalp or bonds. You can brush the ends using your soft bristled brush or a tangle tamer. This will help ensure every hair is coated thoroughly with conditioner. you should leave the conditioner on for a minimum of three minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes. Once conditioned rinse thoroughly with warm water. You should consider using a leave-in conditioner to help brush through.
Towel drying your extensions
After rinsing squeeze excess water from the hair and wrap a towel around the head and gently pat towel to remove moisture from hair, avoid rubbing at scalp and hair. You can also leave the hair in the towel for 5 minutes to absorb any moisture. Next gently brush hair with soft bristle brush, using a clip section your hair and beginning brushing your hair through starting at ends of your hair working your way up to the roots. Support the roots wear possible to help avoid tugging while brushing.
Styling products
Styling products can be used with your extensions. I would always recommend professional styling products. Serums, leave in conditioners, heat protection before drying/styling is a must! Treat your hair extensions with the love they deserve. Styling products such as Blow-dry sprays, Hairspray and finishing sprays such as shine sprays or finishing oils are also recommended.
Drying and styling your extensions
To blow-dry using a hairdryer I suggest using a medium or low heat and a soft bristle brush to style. I would blow-dry your hair and roots until about 95% dry, then the remaining 5% using a styling bristle brush, this can be a round soft bristle brush or even your hair extension brush.
Once dry, you may style HUMAN HAIR using Carmen rollers, Hot sticks, Curling tongs, wands or hair straighteners.
MONO-FIBRE is recommended to be washed in cool water.
For MONO-FIBRE extensions ONLY heated rollers is recommended and blow drying on a cold/low heat.
If you prefer to let your extensions dry naturally please ensure you fully dry the roots so that the hair extension bond is completely dry.
DO NOT sleep with wet or damp hair, ensure if drying hair naturally that the hair is fully dry before going to bed. Sleeping with wet or damp hair will cause matting to extensions or natural hair. It is also recommended to loosely braid your extensions or loosely pop your hair in a bun on top of your head for bed time.
Hot hints
Always use the Sulphate free shampoo and conditioner recommended by your hair extension technician.
Do not use shampoos or conditioners that contain oils of fruit acids, such as wheatgerm or Citrus, using shampoos that contain these ingredients could result in damage to your extensions bonds.
Excessive oil used at the roots can result in your extensions sliding out.
When rinsing hair, rinse for a few seconds extra as the extra volume created by your extensions may mean it takes longer to rinse.
I advise never sleeping with wet or damp hair as it could affect the bonds and may cause the hair to tangle or matte.
If you have an oily scalp wash your hair regularly, as build up of natural oils can make your bonds slip or fall out.
You can use styling products, if using serums use sparingly and only on ends.
Treat your extensions with the same respect as your natural hair. Good aftercare and regular maintenance programme with your extensions stylist will keep your extensions looking great for longer.
If you regularly swim or are planning to holiday whilst wearing extensions I recommend that when swimming in the sea or swimming pools, you wear a protective swimming cap as the chemicals in the pool or salt levels in the sea may affect your extensions. I cannot guarantee the quality if adequate precautions are not taken. Please also be aware that Sun screen can also have an effect on hair extensions so it is recommended that hair is tied up away from your skin while sun screen is used. The same applies to fake tan.

Aftercare for Human Hair Nets
Now you have your beautiful hair please follow the hair extensions aftercare. The only difference is your net is connected to your remaining hair.
Please choose a Sulphate Free Shampoo and a good conditioner recommended for hair extensions and suggested by Sam.
When shampooing it is always recommended to wash under a shower, never over/in a bath.
Shampoo your hair twice using no more than a fifty pence piece amount of shampoo. It is important for anyone wearing a net that you rinse for much longer to give the water time to rinse through the net and layers of hair.
Once you are ready to condition please again be careful not to rub into the bonds as this can make them slip down the hair.
It’s best to use conditioner from the ears down and avoid the rooted area.
Always follow the hair extensions advice for washing and styling your net.
Remember to fix your parting in place and your fringe then apply any leave in products.
You can now dry/style your hair as advice and recommended in the hair extensions section.
